It’s Stephen Hunt, Managing Director of Hunt Hospitality International. Now, I know it sounds cliche, and you hear a lot about ‘finding your passion’.. what really is your passion? Pretty simple. It’s actually finding out what you love, and feeding that and nurturing it and growing it into a career.
Now, for me personally, I started in my backyard having barbecues over, barbeques in my parents’ house. I was only a teenager, our parents were quite often home, and we’d have a collection of our mates come over. We have a few beers and a barbecue – it was all pretty harmless stuff! And then one of them I said to me, one day ago, “Steve, one day, you’re gonna have a pub, you know, loads of pubs called punters bars. And I was like, “Yeah, sure mate, that’s fine.” And then, many years later, I got a job in the local pub. And then found that that was a career that suited me.
I was used to having people around. I came from a big family. So, I was used to having people who were older and younger, all age groups, and we’re a close knit community, with aunts and uncles – seeing them regularly.
I knew that I enjoyed being in a group of people. And I knew I loved hospitality. Serving people food, serving people drinks and so that’s how I found my passion. I found that in other areas as well, joining clubs. Again, the hospitality side of it, for me, being around people was crucial. You need to find what you really enjoy. If you’re not enjoying your job now in your career path, see if there’s other parts of the business or the industry that you can get involved in.
For me, my passion is hospitality: making people’s days. So, look for your passion, good luck on your journey and as always reach out and say hello!
Cheers.
